S.T.E.A.M.

An adaptive reuse project based in Philadelphia.  In order to sufficiently complete this project I worked with two other students, Arthur Jonathan Loree and Adelaide Mcinnis.  The Willow Street steam plant near Northern Liberties in Philadelphia has been abandoned for about 30 years. We found an opportunity to supplement high school level art programs. At the reincarnation of the Willow Street steam plant, we designed a place where students can have access to machinery, spaces and professional services. Here the public school students of Philadelphia, who have no exposure to any arts programs, can be exposed to cutting edge ways of thinking and can be given an opportunity that would otherwise not exist.

Beijing Filter

The Beijing Filter is a 465 m tall mixed use high rise. Containing small and large office spaces towards the middle, and residential spaces towards the top. The structure is inspired by and modeled after muscle tissue, with a free flowing form that represents the flow of blood through the body all while protecting the users inside from Beijing's foul atmosphere. Integrated throughout the immediate site is an abundance of grassy areas and trees. The moment the smog comes in from surrounding factories the air is filtered before it gets to the building. Once near the building, the winter gardens staggered at varying heights within the building filter that air to distribute to users to keep them as healthy as possible in unhealthy weather conditions.

Origins

My design opposes the Farnsworth house, through creating a 360 view of the site in six different nodes dispersed along the original path from years ago. Each node captures a different view, which includes a closer view of the pool, the tennis court, and recreates the views of the original path when it was first constructed. Connecting these nodes by the use of overhangs between them, it helps frame these views further.

Hybrid Project

The original task of this visualization project was to combine two every day objects, and create a structure. This quick exercise was to test our skills in visualization and rendering. For this project, I combined a push pin and scissors. I took the X shape from an open pair of scissors and the facade was taken from the round shape at the top of the push pin.

Crossways

This group project was a way to unite the streets of New York and make it safer for the residents of the area. The program is a unique combination of residences, a market, and a museum component dedicated to Andy Warhol. This super block is lifted up off of the ground to bring pedestrians off of the street. It unifies the neighborhood and gives a more community feel to the area.
